Abstract
MICROFUNGAL CONTAMINATION IN THE OPTICIANRY LABORATORY AIR AND MATERIALS OF HEALTH SERVICES VOCATIONAL SCHOOL IN MARMARIS, TURKEY

ABSTRACT

In this study, it was aimed to determine of microfungal contamination in the opticianry laboratory air and materials of Health Services Vocational School. Totally, 54 samples were collected from the laboratory materials and air. The samples were taken by swabbing from the surface of the laboratory materials with moistened sterile swab sticks. The samples of the laboratory air were taken by using open petri plate method. Eventually, 33 different microfungal species were obtained belonging to Alternaria, Aspergillus, Aureobasidium, Cladosporium, Cochliobolus, Cuninghamella, Drechslera, Embellisia, Geotrichum, Gliomastix, Paecilomyces, Penicillium, Pithomyces, Scopulariopsis and Trichoderma genera. Penicillium was found to be dominant in terms of the number of species, followed by Aspergillus, Alternaria and Cladosporium. Numerically Cladosporium was found as the most abundant. Cladosporium oxysporum colonies were highest in number, followed by Cladosporium cladosporioides, Penicillium glabrum, Cladosporium herbarum and Cladosporium sphaerospermum. The more microfungus was isolated from laboratory air than other samples.
